What is a cookie?
A cookie is information stored on your computer, tablet or mobile directly by a website you visit (“first party cookies”). Cookies often store your settings for a website, such as your preferred language. When you return to that site, the browser sends back the cookies that belong to that site. This allows the site to present you with information customized to fit your needs. Cookies can store a wide range of information, including personally identifiable information. However, this information can only be stored if you provide it – websites cannot gain access to information you didn’t provide to them, and they can’t access other files on your computer.
How to disable cookies?
Social networking websites may also place cookies onto your computer. This happens on websites that allow you to log in or register using social network accounts, and if you share site content on D5F social networking sites (e.g. via the “Like” button). The privacy implications will vary from one social network to another and will depend on the privacy settings you have chosen on these networks. On their website you can learn how to manage these cookies.
What happens if I disable cookies?
You can disable the saving of cookies on your computer however, blocking all cookies will have a negative impact upon the usability of many websites, including this one. Cookie settings can be managed and configured in your web browser. If you want to delete or disable cookies on your computer, update the settings of your Internet browser (select the ‘help’ menu of your browser for more information on how to delete and disable cookies).
